The FBI released an alert Monday to law enforcement agencies warning that QAnon members discussed dressing as Army National Guard members to infiltrate Wednesday’s Biden inauguration ceremony.
The alert details persons of interest downloading floor maps of areas in D.C. that could lead to subverting security. The same people of interest associate themselves with the extremist group QAnon, which believes the federal government is run by a cabal of child molesters, and have indicated they plan to travel to D.C. for Wednesday’s inauguration.
Last week, FBI Director Christopher Wray explained that the FBI has been monitoring an “extensive amount of online chatter,” but that “one of the real challenges in this space is trying to distinguish what is aspirational and what is potential.”
The FBI has commented that they are vetting large numbers of the 20,000 National Guard members currently in D.C. to further prevent insider threats.
