Progressive Charles Booker Likely To Run Against Sen. Rand Paul In 2022

Former State Rep. Charles Booker (D-Kentucky) tweeted Monday that he is “strongly considering” a Senate run against incumbent Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky).

Booker gave his extended thoughts Sunday saying, “The truth of the matter is we have much more in common than we do otherwise, and there are struggles that I have experienced in the west end of Louisville that aren’t partisan — rationing my insulin, seeing my lights be cut off, not having a place to stay, seeing loved ones battle drug addiction and looking at jobs leaving our community never coming back,” Booker said on Kentucky Educational Television.

Booker narrowly lost the 2020 Democratic Senate Primary in Kentucky against Amy McGrath, who went on to lose against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky). Booker ran a progressive campaign in 2020 centralized on his support of the Green New Deal, Universal Basic Income and Medicare for All.
