Donald Trump
On Wednesday night, President Donald Trump tweeted out a link to his followers touting this year’s fake news award winners that directed users to a page on the Republican National Committee website.
The post began, “2017 was a year of unrelenting bias, unfair news coverage, and even downright fake news.”
But rather than awards the site instead listed just 10 news stories from throughout the year from mainstream media outlets such as The New York Times, CNN and the Washington Post, that contained errors already admitted by the publications themselves long before Wednesday’s “awards.”
One such article, Trump had listed wasn’t even an actual news story at all but rather an opinion piece by New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, who had predicted that the economy wouldn’t see a further growth under President Trump. Since Trump has taken office, the stock market has repeatedly hit new highs, something the president likes to remind his base of frequently.

Following the initial dropping of this year’s winners, Trump, moments later, sent out a second tweet complimenting news outlet which provided what he deemed “GOOD NEWS” that “the American people [can] be proud of.”
This comes the same day that Arizona Republican Senator John McCain published a column in the Washington Post condemning the president’s language against mainstream media and fellow Republican Senator Jeff Flake likened the president’s war on the press to that of Joseph Stalin’s.
“No longer can we turn a blind eye or a deaf ear to these assaults on our institutions. And Mr. President, an American president who cannot take criticism — who must constantly deflect and distort and distract — who must find someone else to blame — is charting a very dangerous path. And a Congress that fails to act as a check on the president adds to the danger” Flake said.
The president wrapped up his awards by once again taking aim at the Russia investigation calling it “perhaps the greatest hoax perpetrated on the American people,” before listing off 10 of his own accomplishments so far.
