President Trump Borderline Obese, But Otherwise Healthy

Donald Trump underwent his first presidential physical and the results were revealed on Tuesday during a White House press briefing.

DONALD TRUMP OBESE ACCORDING TO PRESIDENTIAL PHYSICAL

Dr. Ronny Jackson, a rear admiral in the Navy, read the details of Trump’s physical fitness. Jackson has been the White House physician since Barack Obama appointed him in 2013. “I think he will remain fit for duty for the remainder of this term and for the remainder of the next term if he’s re-elected,” the doctor stated.

Jackson did, however, say that the president’s weight was an issue. At 6′ 2.5″, Trump weighs 239 pounds, which places him in the obese category of the Body Mass Index. His BMI is 30.3, and anything above 30 is ranks as obese. A BMI of between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered normal.

“We talked about diet and exercise a lot,” Dr. Jackson said during the briefing. “He’s more enthusiastic about the diet part than the exercise part, but we’re going to do both. He and I will work together over the next year to incorporate a plan so we can meet those goals.”

Based on his BMI, if Trump aimed to lose 39 pounds, it would put him at the borderline between normal weight and overweight on the BMI charts. BMI, however, is not the best measure of an individual’s overall health. The scale does not take many factors into account – for example, it does not give a distinction between weight from fat and weight from muscle.

Jackson said at the briefing that he and the president set a goal of losing 10-15 pounds. Aside from his weight, Trump has good statistics. His resting heart rate is 68 beats per minute and his blood pressure is 122/74, both of which fall within the normal range. “I have no concerns about his cognitive ability,” Jackson said.
