Lines of trucks block the U.S.-Canada border during a demonstration in Coutts, Alberta, Canada, on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022. Since Saturday, a blockade of some 100 trucks has been in place on the north side of the crossing between Alberta and Montana to protest vaccination mandates put in place this month for truck drivers going across the Canada-U.S. border, the Toronto Star reports. Canadian police have begun arresting truck drivers who are blocking bridges connecting the U.S. and Canada over Covid-19 vaccine mandates.
Lawmakers are becoming more worried about the economic effects of the protests in Ottawa after the busiest border crossing between Canada and America was partially blocked by truckers protesting the Canadian vaccine mandate.
The protest is at the Ambassador Bridge between the cities Detroit and Windsor, Ontario where the blockade has stopped the flow of traffic from getting into Canada. Canadian transport minister Omar Alghabra said, “I’ve already heard from automakers and food grocers. This is a really serious cause for concern.”
Goods were still getting into Canada even with the blockade but trucks had to travel 70 miles further to the Blue Water Bridge where there was a three hour delay for trucks to get across. Protesters also closed another border crossing in Alberta, Canada.

The blockade has been going on for 10 days. Protesters said they will not leave with their parked trucks until all vaccine and Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. Most Canadians support their government’s tough stance on Covid vaccinations.
