Pence Hints He Would Not Support Trump In 2024: ‘I’d Prefer Somebody Else’

Former Vice President Mike Pence indicated he would not support Donald Trump if the Republican party nominates the former president to run again in 2024.

“Well, there might be somebody else I’d prefer more,” Pence told students at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Pence’s remarks came at a moment when political observers say the former vice-president himself is a potential candidate for the GOP nomination in 2024. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and even Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., are some other potential runners speculated recently.

After receiving a round of applauses for his response, he hinted he might have a more concrete decision after the midterm elections in November.

“I have every confidence that the Republican party is going to sort our leadership,” Pence said. “All my focus has been on the midterm elections and I’ll stay that way for the next 20 days. But after that, we’ll be thinking about the future, ours and the nation’s.”

Last week, former House Speaker Paul Ryan said he doesn’t believe the GOP would nominate Trump for president in 2024, arguing that it’s clear that he would lose.
