Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday called Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts “a disappointment to conservatives,” after Roberts, who was appointed by George W. Bush, sided with liberal judges this term in several major rulings.
“Look, we have great respect for the institution of the Supreme Court of the United States,” Pence told Christian Broadcasting Network’s host David Brody. “But Chief Justice John Roberts has been a disappointment to conservatives – whether it be the Obamacare decision, or whether it be a spate of recent decisions all the way through Calvary Chapel.”
Known as conservative judge, Roberts has become the institution’s swing voter recently.
The resentment from Pence developed after two major decisions in which Roberts had sided with liberal justices in recent months – ruling for protections of LGBTQ employees against discrimination and preventing Trump from deporting 650,000 undocumented people to live and work in the U.S.
