Pelosi Says Trump Is ‘Ethically Unfit’ & ‘Intellectually Unprepared’ To Be President

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) called President Donald Trump “ethically unfit” to be president on Thursday, citing the revelations that came to light during the impeachment inquiry last year.

“President Trump by … what we saw in the impeachment, by what others are being quoted as saying in terms of leaders in the president’s own administration, President Trump is clearly ethically unfit and intellectually unprepared to be the president of the United States,” Pelosi said.

“That doesn’t seem to matter to the Republicans in the United States Senate. It didn’t seem to matter to John Bolton,” she continued, referencing the former national security adviser who refused to testify during the House investigation, but is planning to release on Tuesday a tell-all book with information about Trump’s dealings in Ukraine, the central issue during the impeachment inquiry. “He chose loyalty over patriotism and so is going to make money off his book, I guess.”

Excerpts of Bolton’s book, titled The Room Where It Happened, were released prior to Pelosi’s comments. In addition to providing information about the Ukraine affair, Bolton alleges that Trump sought help from Chinese President Xi Jinping in the 2020 election.

Pelosi said that Bolton’s new claims would not make a difference in the House’s impeachment efforts.

“We did impeach the president of the United States,” Pelosi said. “Removing him from office requires a vote of the Senate, and they have said — many of them have said there’s nothing that John Bolton has put forth that would change their mind about removing the president from office because no matter how unfit the president is they just did not want a Democratic president.”
