Pelosi Moves Forward With House Proposal As Senate Stalls In Passing Coronavirus Stimulus Package

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announces the House will move forward with a coronavirus emergency package after the Senate failed to pass their own.

The $1.6 trillion-plus emergency package in the Senate meant to aid the economy as the coronavirus continues to disrupt various sectors of the economy failed on Sunday. The Senate is scheduled to take another vote on Tuesday.

“From my standpoint, we’re apart,” Pelosi told reporters as she headed to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office on Sunday. The two leaders, joined by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, met on Sunday in hopes of coming to terms on an agreement.

When asked about the Monday deadline, Pelosi made it clear that the deadline was self-imposed by McConnell. “It’s on the Senate side because that’s their deadline for a vote,” Pelosi said about the deadline. “We’ll be introducing our own bill and hopefully it will be compatible.”
