Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi denied claims that she urged President Joe Biden to step aside from his reelection campaign.
In an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, Pelosi spoke about her support for Biden and refuted the claims that she led a pressure campaign to force Biden to drop out of the race and made calls on the matter.
“No, I wasn’t a leader of any pressure party,” Pelosi said. “Well, let me say things that I didn’t do. I didn’t call one person. I did not call one person. I could always say to him, ‘I never called anybody.’ What I’m saying is, I had confidence that the president would make the proper choice for our country, whatever that would be, and I said that. ‘Whatever that is, we’ll go with.’”
Pelosi also said that she did not see a cognitive decline in Biden, citing his leadership at the NATO summit.

“No,” she replied when asked about Biden’s cognitive ability. “My whole point was, whatever he decides, but we have to have a more aggressive campaign.” Pelosi also said that during the NATO summit, Biden was at “the top of his game.”
She also said that her focus is on preserving Biden’s legacy as a politician and celebrating his accomplishments.
“Such a consequential president of the United States, a Mount Rushmore kind of president of the United States,” Pelosi said. “Well, you got Teddy Roosevelt up there, and he’s wonderful. I don’t say take him down. But you can add Biden.”
