Paul Manafort Released From Prison, Transferred To Home Confinement Over Coronavirus Concerns

Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, was released from prison to home confinement over concerns he could contract the coronavirus in prison.

This comes after his attorneys requested the Federal Bureau of Prisons allow him to finish his sentence at home. Manafort’s health history, according to his attorneys, puts him at a higher risk of getting COVID-19.

Manafort was sentenced last March to seven and a half years of prison. He was charged by special counsel Robert Mueller’s office with tax evasion, violating federal lobbying laws and more after hiding millions he earned representing pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine.

He was hospitalized in December as he was serving his sentence for severe gout.

About 2,500 inmates have been released to home confinement after Attorney General William Barr sent a memo late March to the Bureau of Prisons instructing them to use home confinement because of the pandemic.
