Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly Resigns After Taking Action Against ‘Freedom Convoy’

Ottowa police chief Peter Sloly has resigned after 19 days of trucker protests have paralyzed his city, and police seemed impotent to stop them.

On Sunday, police finally began arresting protesters opposing Canada’s tough Covid-19 restrictions and blocking a key trade route with the U.S.

With police threats of arrest and court orders failing to stop the blockade, police took action late Saturday when they arrested a 27-year-old man for criminal acts in relation to the protest.

President Joe Biden has requested Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to use his federal powers to end the blockade.

Blockades made of concrete were put in front of police officers to stop protesters from gaining ground. Ever since the so-called “Freedom Convoy” protest started, protesters have been choking off Canadian trade and even American supply chains resulting in a loss estimated at $850 million.
