Ukraine authorities reported that Russian Major General Andrei Simonov was killed near Kharkiv over the weekend, marking the ninth Russian general killed in Ukraine since the beginning of the war just over two months ago.
In Saturday’s Ukrainian attack on a field command post, over 30 vehicles were struck and at least 100 Russian soldiers were killed.
Simonov was a high-level commander of electronic warfare, according to a statement on Ukrainian official Anton Gerashchenko‘s Telegram account.
“Russia is losing one general a week on average in Putin’s disastrous war, which must be an almost unprecedented rate of attrition for such senior officers,” said foreign correspondent Ian Birrell on Twitter.
