Former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley urged former president Donald Trump to prepare to face a younger Democratic candidate following President Joe Biden’s shaky debate performance.
The former South Carolina governor’s remarks follow the presidential debate last week, where Biden was raspy and stumbled over his words while giving responses.
“They are going to be smart about it: they’re going to bring somebody younger, they’re going to bring somebody vibrant, they’re going to bring somebody tested,” Haley told the Wall Street Journal. “This is a time for Republicans to prepare and get ready for what’s to come because there is no way that there will be a surviving Democratic Party if they allow Joe Biden to continue to be the candidate.”
Haley stated that she watched the debate in her home state of South Carolina and determined that Biden was unfit for the presidency based on his performance.

“It was shocking, I think, for a lot of people,” Haley said. “What we saw was that Trump was strong, but I don’t even think that mattered because Biden was so amazingly unfit. The way he lost his train of thought, the way he couldn’t grasp topics of what he needed to talk about.”
Biden has received criticism from the GOP following his performance, while many loyal Democrats have also expressed concern about having Biden as their candidate. Many have concerns that Biden’s age and cognitive ability have made him unable to serve another term.
Obama administration speechwriter Jon Favreau posted on X on Friday morning stating that the Democrats should reconsider their candidate.
Biden’s spokesperson, Seth Schuster, denied claims that Biden would drop out of the race in a post on X.
Biden also fought against claims in a new advertisement targeting Trump, stating that he was capable of doing the job.
