Nikki Haley Praises Trump At Iowa Republican Dinner

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley praised former President Donald Trump in a speech at the Iowa Republican Party’s Lincoln Dinner.

“Thank goodness for Donald Trump, or we never would have gotten Kamala Harris to the border,” Haley said, referring to the vice president’s trip to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Haley had slammed Trump’s role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot just a few months ago.

At the time, Haley said Trump’s actions “will be judged harshly by history.”

She said that Trump had “lost any sort of political viability” and that he wasn’t “going to be in the picture [any longer] – he’s fallen so far.”

But in her speech, Haley commended Trump’s foreign policy, claiming she “saw firsthand as ambassador to the United Nations that Donald Trump put America first.”

Haley said she believes Trump has “a way of getting people,” citing his nicknaming North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un “Little Rocket Man” as a prime example.

Since Trump rejected Haley’s request to meet at his Mar-a-Lago resort in February, she’s been a lot warmer toward the former president.

For instance, in April, Haley said she would support Trump if he decided to run for president in 2024.

During Thursday night’s speech, Haley also accused the Democratic party of “strong-arm[ing] big tech, big business, and big government into silencing anyone who doesn’t toe the liberal line.” She claims Democrats endorse “riots and lawlessness.”

She also gave her supporters a sneak-peak at how she may distinguish herself as a presidential candidate in 2024, calling herself “the proud daughter of Indian immigrants” and “a brown girl in a black-and-white world.”

“Take it from me, the first female and minority governor of South Carolina,” she said. “I said it last year at the Republican National Convention, and I will keep on saying it: America is not a racist country. It’s just the opposite. America has done more to ensure equal justice and opportunity than any other country in history.”
