Singer Nicky Jam withdrew his support for former President Donald Trump on Oct. 30, just a month after endorsing the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
In footage posted to Instagram, Nicky Jam, who is of Puerto Rican decent, announced he was retracting his support for Trump after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” during a Trump rally on Oct. 27.
Jam publicly endorsed Trump during a rally in Las Vegas on Sept. 13, as the singer said he “believed it was what’s best for the economy in the United States, where a lot of Latinos live, including me.”
“Never in my life did I think that just one month later, a comedian would come and criticize my country, and speak poorly of my country,” Jam said. “And for that, I revoke any support for Donald Trump, and I’m stepping aside from any kind of political situation. Puerto Rico is to be respected.”
