Twitter marked Rep. Matt Gaetz‘s (R-Florida) tweet a “glorification of violence” after he suggested Americans “hunt down” Antifia members, comparing them to “terrorists.”
Shortly after Twitter censored the tweet, Gaetz followed up with a new post, tweeting:
Twitter censored the tweet similarly to President Donald Trump‘s tweet last week when he wrote “when looting starts, shooting starts.” After the George Floyd protests against police violence went on for a few days, Trump called for more force in handling the demonstrations, referring to protestors as “thugs.”
In his tweet, Gaetz referenced Trump’s earlier tweet, when he suggested calling Antifa “terrorists,” blaming the intensifying mood of the protests and public outrage on the far left-wing anti-fascist group.

Following Trump’s comment, American Civil Liberties Union National Security Project Director Hina Shamsi, said: “There is no legal authority for designating a domestic group. Any such designation would raise significant due process and First Amendment concerns.”
