After battling lawsuits brought by families of Sandy Hook victims, Alex Jones has placed his company, Free Speech Systems, in chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The news comes as Jones is facing several defamation cases for spreading conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012.
The lawyer overseeing the Sandy Hook families’ trial, Avi Moshenberg, said in an interview that Jones was trying to evade responsibility.
“There’s all sorts of protections that are supposed to be designed for a swift, quick bankruptcy with not a lot of oversight — the kind of oversight you’d see in a normal bankruptcy — because it’s designed for small businesses,” Moshenberg stated.

Jones also faces lawsuits from other families as well including one from Scarlett Lewis and Neil Heslin, whose six-year-old-child was killed during the shooting. Last week, a jury ordered him to pay nearly $50 million in damages to the families.
Jones’ fanbase harassed the families after he called the shooting a “hoax.”
Several courts in Texas have already issued Jones default judgments after failing to appear in the hearings and retrieve evidence.
