Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) called Donald Trump a “bully on the schoolyard” on Sunday after Trump made comments about Christie’s weight.
Christie, who announced his bid for the 2024 presidential election earlier this month, has previously spoken about his longtime struggle with his weight, questioning its relevance to his ability to be president.
“I don’t care what he says about me,” said Christie about Trump on Fox News, “and I don’t care what he thinks about me, and he should take a look in the mirror every once in a while — maybe he’d drop the weight thing off his list of criticisms.”
Since his very first appearance as a presidential candidate, Christie has been a vocal critic of Trump. Despite his previous allyship with the former president, Christie has centered his campaign around an attack on Trump, in hopes of getting other Republicans to cast their vote elsewhere.

Following his appearance on Fox News, Christie took to Twitter to reinforce his opinions about the former president’s remarks.
“Like millions of Americans, I too have struggled with my weight,” wrote Christie. “But Trump isn’t unfit for office because of his appearance. He’s unfit because he has no character.”
