New York City Mayor De Blasio Asks Gov. Andrew Cuomo to Apologize To NYPD After Criticism

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) said Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-New York) needs to apologize to NYPD. On Tuesday, the governor blamed the police force and the mayor for failing to prevent the looting and unrest amid George Floyd protest on Monday night.

“The NYPD and the mayor did not do their job last night. I believe that,” Cuomo said Tuesday. “I believe the mayor underestimates the scope of the problem. I think he underestimates the duration of the problem.”

De Blasio replied to Cuomo’s criticism during the radio interview later Tuesday that the governor’s comment “dishonored” the hardworking men and women.

“I think he owes an apology to 36,000 hardworking men and women who have been putting their lives on the line for all of us,” de Blasio said. “The important point here, is he dishonored the men and women of the NYPD in an absolutely inappropriate way for any leader to do. Any elected official who blames the NYPD while they were out there fighting in the streets to restore order and protect people, I think that’s disgraceful.”
