The latest New Hampshire poll shows 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang leading President Donald Trump by eight points.
He was the second most favored candidate in a head-to-heads poll against Trump, trailing one point behind former Vice President Joe Biden.
Spencer Kimball, director of Emerson Polling, said, “it is interesting to see Yang outperform his Democratic rivals against Trump. In this case, his lower name recognition may allow voters to idealize his candidacy.”
Excited Yang supporters, colloquially called the “Yang Gang,” took to Twitter with the hashtag #YangBeatsTrump. By Tuesday afternoon, the hashtag was trending as one of the top five topics.

Writer Scott Santens tweeted that even though the Twitter trends were mainly about Apple’s new products, the fact that #YangBeatsTrump made it into the rankings showed that the campaign was gaining momentum.
Yang cited the poll in his newest campaign video, showing a graphic of the poll.
“I’m one of only two candidates in the field that 10% or more of Donald Trump voters say that they would support,” Yang said in the video. “I’m building a coalition of disaffected Trump voters, Independents, Libertarians and Conservatives as well as Democrats and Progressives. I believe I am the candidate best suited to beat Donald Trump.”
Yang’s proposed universal basic income of $1000 per month, system of medicare for all and idea of “human-centered capitalism,” meaning not giving away jobs to artificial intelligence has bipartisan appeal.
His campaign slogan draws on his politically diverse support, saying “Our vision is Not Left. It’s Not Right. It’s Forward.”
