A newly revealed recording seems to confirm former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman‘s claims that campaign officials of President Donald Trump were aware of an alleged tape in which Trump uses a racial epithet.
In her new book, Unhinged, Omarosa claims that Trump’s aides were aware of the existence of the N-word tape, during Trump’s presidential run. The now obtained audio shows a phone conversation in October 2016 with Lynne Patton, then-assistant to the President’s son Eric Trump and spokesperson Katrina Pierson in which they discuss how to deal with a potential fallout from the release of the N-word tape.
“I am trying to find at least what context it was used in to help us maybe try to figure out a way to spin it,” Pierson is heard saying. Patton then described a conversation she had with then-candidate Trump about making the slur. “I said, ‘Well, sir, can you think of anytime where this happened?’ And he said, ‘no.'” Omarosa responded, “Well, that is not true.”
The conversation moved on with Patton, saying, “He goes, how do you think I should handle it and I told him exactly what you just said, Omarosa, which is well, it depends on what scenario you are talking about. And he said, well, why don’t you just go ahead and put it to bed.” Pierson then said concluding, “He said. No, he said it. He is embarrassed by it.”

On Monday, Pierson denied that any conversations took place. “No, that did not happen. Sounds like she is writing a script for a movie.” The now-obtained audio tape appears to confirm Omarosa’s account.
