NBC News is refusing to apologize for reporting that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called Donald Trump a “moron” over the summer.
Trump insisted that the network “issue an apology” and called their report “fake news.” Over the summer, NBC said that Tillerson called Trump a “moron” and considered resigning after a meeting at the Pentagon. Tillerson, for his part, denied that he thought about stepping down from his post, and refused to address what he called the “petty” stuff.
“It’s safe to say NBC News will not be issuing an apology to America,” said NBC News Chief White House Correspondent Hallie Jackson in a tweeted video. “We stand by it. We’ve extensively reported on this. We talked to a dozen people for this story,” reads the tweet’s caption.

The president took to Twitter on Oct. 4 to address the issue. “The @NBCNews story has just been totally refuted by Sec. Tillerson and @VP Pence. It is #FakeNews. They should issue an apology to AMERICA!” he wrote.
He even went as far as to say that NBC News is less trustworthy than CNN, his original media enemy. “Rex Tillerson never threatened to resign. This is Fake News put out by @NBCNews. Low news and reporting standards. No verification from me,” he also tweeted.
