House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) blasted President Donald Trump on Saturday for suggesting sunlight and an injection of disinfectant as coronavirus treatments, saying that he has been “consistent” in touting methods that don’t have any scientific background.
“My reaction is that it was consistent with all of his other statements, which had no relationship to science, fact, evidence, data, or appropriate way to proceed. So it was consistent. But it’s also consistent with Mitch McConnell saying let the states go bankrupt,” Pelosi said during an interview with MSNBC.
“They don’t believe in science, and they don’t believe in governance. And that’s why it’s hard to get them to accept the evidence that we have a role to do something to meet the needs of the American people in a very direct and stronger way,” Pelosi said.
On Thursday’s White House briefing, Trump defended his “sunlight” suggestion by citing research from his Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as evidence that he was correct the first time when he suggested that warmer weather would stop the spread of the disease.
