N.Y. Attorney General Letitia James Seeks Access To Trump’s Secret File Cabinets

New York Attorney General Letitia James is going head-to-head with former President Donald Trump‘s lawyers in court, in an effort to obtain two dozen file cabinets from Trump Tower.

James will also be challenged on her subpoenas to compel Trump and his children, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump to sit for depositions in her civil case investigating the Trump Organization’s finances.

Those who know about the file cabinets say they line the back wall of the 26th floor in Trump Tower, where Trump’s executive offices are. A source told Insider, “They go back decades.”

Trump will be represented by attorney Ron Fischetti in the oral arguments held on Zoom Thursday morning. The oral arguments will be held in front of a Manhattan Supreme Court judge.

“[Letitia James] can’t operate as a district attorney and as an attorney general at the same time,” Fischetti told Insider, referring to James’ concurrent criminal investigation.

James said her office is teaming up with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office for the criminal investigation, which could result in jail time for the Trumps if they are found guilty. The civil case could bring about a lawsuit and fines.

The Trump Organization’s general counsel, Alan Garten, was subpoenaed last summer. He told James “that there were file cabinets at the Trump organization containing Mr. Trump’s files. Mr. Trump had assistants who maintained files on his behalf, that he received and maintained hard copy documents, and that he used Post-it Notes to communicate with employees.”

Since then, just three of Trump’s letters have been handed over, said James’ filing.
