N.J. Rep. Bill Pascrell Seeking To Disbar Rudy Giuliani & Lawyers Working Trump Election ‘Fraud’ Cases

A New Jersey Congressman is seeking to disbar Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and 22 other lawyers working with the Trump campaign in launching a series of lawsuits aimed at attacking and reversing the presidential election results.

“Donald Trump has done great damage to this nation — but he has always had helpers. These lawyers are enabling his treachery and harming our democracy,” a spokesperson for Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. told the Washington Post, adding the “frivolous lawsuits” are “an affront to the rule of law.”

He added: “Failure to hold Giuliani and his crew accountable by revoking their licenses will only invite further abuses by bad actors and push America closer to lawlessness and authoritarianism.”

Pascrell filed complaints last week with regulatory and disciplinary boards within the state bar associations in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, New York and Pennsylvania.

The complaints could trigger an investigation into Giuliani’s actions and statements regarding the election lawsuits — including his consistent promotion of baseless allegations of widespread voter fraud — and could lead to smaller sanctions or warnings as well. Disbarring is rare and only occurs for serious misconduct.

For example, the American Bar Association’s Survey on Lawyer Discipline estimated in 2018 that of the approximate 1.3 million practicing lawyers in the U.S., only 378 were involuntarily disbarred.

In a later statement released Tuesday, Pascrell claimed Republican lawmakers said he was violating Giuliani’s “civil rights” by calling for his disbarring.

“House Republicans are running interference to help make Trump a dictator,” he said. “But wannabe fascist sycophants don’t scare me. I won’t shut up about the crimes of Trump and his lawyers.”
