While testifying before Congress, former Special Counsel Robert Mueller said that Russia wanted Trump to win the 2016 election.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-California), asked Mueller if “the Russian government… would benefit from one of the candidates winning?”
Mueller stated that the Russian’s did benefit and that its meddling should be taken seriously. He also added that it is “not a hoax” that Russia interfered with the election. In 2018, 13 Russians were indicted for meddling with U.S. elections by the special counsel’s ream. Mueller stated that they “had a strategic goal to sow discord in the… 2016 U.S. presidential election.”
Lofgren continued by asking which candidate he thought the Russians would benefit from.
