Mitt Romney Calls GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene & Paul Gosar ‘Morons’

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) condemned the actions of a group of his fellow Republicans who voiced support for Vladimir Putin and attended a conference hosted by a white nationalist.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar, I don’t know them,” Romney said during an appearance on CNN. “I’m reminded of the old line from the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid movie, where one character says, ‘Morons, I have morons on my team.'”

Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) and Paul Gosar (R-Arizona) were seen at a conference held by Nick Fuentes over the weekend, and even Greene admitted that she wasn’t familiar with his views.

“I don’t know what his views are, so I’m not aligned with anything that may be controversial,” Greene told CBS News. “I went to his event last night to address his very large following because that is a young, very young, following and a generation I am extremely concerned about.”

As for the members of his party who have been voicing pro-Putin sentiments and downplaying the situation in Ukraine, Romney called them “almost treasonous.”

When asked if his statement included former President Donald Trump, who earlier this week called Putin’s recognition of two Ukrainian separatist regions as independent, “genius,” Romney responded, “Standing up for freedom is the right thing to do in America. Anything less than that, in my opinion, is unworthy of American support.”
