Former President Donald Trump criticized Congress for their efforts to pass a bill that would send $40 billion in support to Ukraine.
“The Democrats are sending another $40 billion to Ukraine, yet America’s parents are struggling to even feed their children,” Trump said in a statement. “It is unthinkable that in the year 2022 American families are unable to get baby formulas for their children. Families whose children have serious allergies and require ‘elemental’ formula are in even more desperate and dire straits.”
He called the lack of baby formula on the shelves “a national disgrace.”
Last week, the House passed the Ukraine aid package 368-57, with only Republicans disapproving. It was temporarily held up in the Senate when Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) called for a provision that included the Afghanistan inspector general having oversight of spending in Ukraine to be tacked onto the original bill.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), who has historically sparred over issues with Trump, visited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Ukraine over the weekend and spoke with reporters about the aid package after the meeting.
“Hopefully not many members of my party will choose to politicize this issue. I thought it was significant in the House that the House leadership voted for the package and the vast majority of House Republicans voted for the package,” McConnell said.
“This is not some handout. This is to prevent this ruthless thug from beginning a march through Europe. And the first place to stop him is Ukraine, and that’s what we’re determined to do,” he added.
