Mike Pence Confronted By Iowa Voter Over Refusal To Help Donald Trump Overturn the 2020 Election

Republican presidential candidate Mike Pence was confronted by an Iowa voter about his role in the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021. The woman then told Pence that he was at fault for the election of President Joe Biden.

“If it wasn’t for your vote, we would not have Joe Biden in the White House… do you ever second guess yourself?” asked Luann Bertrand.

The question sums up the challenge that Pence faces as the 2024 election cycle ramps up. After the 2020 election, Donald Trump asked Pence to overturn the results, but Pence refused. This decision marked the divide between the two men, as they worked closely together in the White House as president and vice president.

Pence answered Bertrand’s question by saying that Trump’s request was impossible.

“No vice president in American history ever asserted the authority that you have been convinced I had. But I want to tell you, with all due respect, I said before, I said when I announced, President Trump was wrong about my authority that day and he’s still wrong,” said Pence.

The Pence campaign is currently in the midst of visiting all 99 counties in Iowa. The Indiana native is holding intimate gatherings, ensuring that he is able to talk face-to-face with Iowans in hopes of forging a personal bond with voters.

Following the event on Wednesday, Bertrand stated that she was still unconvinced by Pence’s claims that he could not have carried out Trump’s wishes.

“I believe he’s a good man,” told Bertrand to CNN. “I love the fact that he is strengthened by his faith. But I really do feel like he altered history.”
