WASHINGTON, DC - NOVEMBER 19: Attorney Sidney Powell speaks to the press about various lawsuits related to the 2020 election, inside the Republican National Committee headquarters on November 19, 2020 in Washington, DC. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) is calling for the disbarment of four attorneys who fought for election fraud suits in the state.
Alongside the governor, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) and Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) are also seeking the lawyers’ disbarment. The lawyers in question are Greg Rohl, Scott Hagerstrom and Stefanie Junttila, as well as Sidney Powell, who filed suit in several other states on behalf of former President Donald Trump.
“The 2020 general election was the most secure in our nation’s history, and these lawyers abused their authority by filing meritless, frivolous lawsuits for the sole purpose of undermining public faith in the election,” Benson said in a statement. “They must be held accountable for this unprecedented attack on our democracy and prevented from replicating such harm in the future.”
Powell’s representation has since called the secretary of state’s comments “entirely inappropriate” and says that “It very much shows there’s a political motive here and not a desire to preserve the integrity of the legal profession.”
