Michael Cohen Released From Prison

Former President Donald Trump‘s ex-personal attorney Michael Cohen was released from his three-year prison term on Monday, having completed the final year under house arrest at his Park Avenue residence in Manhattan due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cohen was sentenced in 2018 after pleading guilty to nine federal felonies including tax evasion, lying to Congress, and campaign finance violations stemming from Trump’s 2016 White House bid.

“Three and FREE! Come Monday morning, I head to 500 Pearl Street, sign my release papers and then we celebrate together on Instagram,” an elated Cohen tweeted upon his release.

Standing on the steps of the courthouse in lower Manhattan, Cohen vowed to “ensure that others are held responsible for their dirty deeds and that no one is ever believed to be above the law. My release today in no way negates the actions I took at the direction of and for the benefit of Donald J. Trump. But it also does not negate the behavior of the Justice Department, Bill Barr, the Southern District of New York Prosecutors, Judge William H. Pauley the third, or Donald himself, in my initial incarceration and prosecution.”

Cohen added that he “will continue to provide information testimony documents and my full cooperation on all ongoing investigations to ensure that others are held responsible for their dirty deeds and that no one is ever believed to be above the law.”

While incarcerated, Cohen authored a book, Disloyal: A Memoir: The True Story of the Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump, to atone for his career of doing Trump’s bidding. Cohen also hosts a popular podcast called Mea Culpa.
