Former Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen has reached a settlement with the Trump Organization over unpaid legal bills that the former president racked up during investigations into his alleged crimes. The deal kept both parties out of a trial that was scheduled to begin this week.
Cohen filed a lawsuit against Trump in 2019, claiming that Trump owed him more than $1.9 million in legal and court fees. The former president then sued Cohen for allegedly violating attorney-client confidentiality agreements and is seeking $500 million in damages.
A spokesperson for the court confirmed that Cohen’s case was settled, though the lawsuit brought by Trump is still pending.
Cohen has faced many legal challenges as a result of his affiliation with Trump. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion and campaign finance violations. He admitted that he paid hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels on behalf of the former president.
