McConnell Offers Debt Ceiling Extention After Biden Threatens To Go Nuclear

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R- Kentucky) offered a short-term suspension of the debt ceiling, just a day after President Joe Biden hinted he is thinking about a so-called “nuclear option,” a proposal from Democrats to carve out filibuster exception, amid the looming fear of default due to the deadlock in the Congress.

“Oh, I think that’s a real possibility,” Biden said late Tuesday in Congress when asked about the “nuclear option.”

The President had previously declared he would not consider an option of abolishing the filibuster.

“To protect the American people from a near-term Democrat-created crisis, we will also allow Democrats to use normal procedures to pass an emergency debt limit extension at a fixed dollar amount to cover current spending levels into December,” he said in a statement via Twitter.
