Matt Gaetz’s Ex Girlfriend Testifies In Sex Trafficking Case

The ex-girlfriend of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) testified in court on Wednesday. She is a key witness in an investigation into whether or not Gaetz had sexual relations for money with a woman who was just 17-years-old at the time back in 2017.

He is also being investigated for violation of the Mann Act, for taking women across state lines to engage in prostitution and obstructing justice. Gaetz came under suspicion after his “wingman” Joel Greenberg pleaded guilty to a long list of crimes.

Gaetz adamantly denies the claims and calls the investigation a DOJ “witch hunt.” He released a statement in April.

“First, I have never, ever paid for sex. And second, I, as an adult man, have not slept with a 17-year-old. This is how D.C. works. The guilty and wrong point fingers at the innocent and right. Remember President Joe Biden’s Ukraine scandal,” he wrote. “My lifestyle of yesteryear may be different from how I live now, but it was not and is not illegal.”

The ex-girlfriend, whose name is being withheld, was a former Capitol Hill staffer and has been linked to Gaetz since the summer of 2017. She was dating him during the time the misconduct would have taken place, and she was a friend of the 17-year-old alleged victim. She is reportedly seeking an immunity deal because she fears that there may be phone call recordings that implicate her.

Gaetz’s lawyers said there is “no credible basis” for the case against him.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to challenge any allegations with the facts and law,” Gaetz’s attorneys added.
