New evidence showed an anonymous aide of Mark Meadows contacted Cassidy Hutchinson seeming to threaten Hutchinson before her testimony. The message encouraged the former aide of Meadows to “do the right thing.”
“[A person] let me know you have your deposition tomorrow. He wants me to let you know that he’s thinking about you. He knows you’re loyal, and you’re going to do the right thing when you go in for your deposition,” the message said.
After Hutchinson’s testimony about Meadows, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) presented the messages to the TV audience. Cheney alluded to the possibility of witness tampering, though details of any further action against Meadows or his aide are still unknown.
Cheney stated the messages were received by witnesses ahead of their depositions though the recipients of the initial messages were not made clear.

The first message read, “What they said to me is as long as I continue to be a team player, they know that I’m on the team, I’m doing the right thing, I’m protecting who I need to protect, you know, I’ll continue to stay in the good graces in Trump world.”
“And they have reminded me a couple of times that Trump does read transcripts and just keep that in mind as I proceed through my depositions and interviews with the committee,” the message continued.
Cheney remarked during a speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library that Trump was “a domestic threat that we have never faced before. Republicans cannot both be loyal to Donald Trump and loyal to the constitution. We must choose.”
Though information about the sender is still anonymous, the House Commission is likely to interview the suspect before their identity is revealed.
