Mark McCloskey, Charged For Menacing BLM Protesters With Gun, Mulling Run For GOP Senate Nomination

Mark McCloskey, a personal injury lawyer from St. Louis, is considering running for Missouri’s open U.S. Senate seat.

Current Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Missouri) will not be running for re-election in 2022, leaving the seat open.

“I can confirm that it’s a consideration, yes,” McCloskey said in a brief interview on Tuesday night.

In June 2020, McCloskey and his wife, Patricia, menaced protesters with their guns who passed their house during a BLM protest sparked by the killing of George Floyd.

Images of the couple defending their home went viral on social media and later resulted in charges of unlawful use of a weapon and evidence tampering. The pair have pleaded not guilty to their charges.

Despite criticism from many, former President Donald Trump defended McCloskey and his wife in a televised interview for carrying the guns, saying it was “disgraceful” they were facing legal action.

During the opening night of the 2020 Republican Convention, the couple spoke, describing their gun charges and confrontation with the protesters.

“What you saw happen to us could just as easily happen to any of you who are watching from quiet neighborhoods around our country,” Patricia McCloskey said in the speech.

They also warned the crowd that liberals wanted to “demolish” suburban areas and take away gun rights.

Other potential Republican candidates for the Senate seat include GOP Reps. Jason Smith and Billy Long. Former state Sen. Scott Sifton and attorney Lucas Kunce are on the Democratic list of contenders.
