Marjorie Taylor Greene Says Lauren Boebert Shouldn’t Apologize For ‘Jihad Squad’ Comments

United States Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) lashed out over the weekend after Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) issued an apology for making disparaging comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Illinois) at a local town hall on Thanksgiving Day.

“Never apologize to Islamic terrorist sympathizers, communists, or those who fund murder with our tax dollars. [Ilhan Omar] and the Jihad Squad are all three and are undeserving of an apology,” Greene tweeted on Saturday along with a retweet of another xenophobic attack on Omar.

On Thursday, Boebert told a room of likeminded supporters, who erupted into laughter:

Actually I have an Ilhan story for you. So, the other night on the House floor was not my first ‘Jihad Squad’ moment. So I was getting into an elevator with one of my staffers. You know, we’re leaving the Capitol and we’re going back to my office and we get an elevator and I see a Capitol police officer running to the elevator. I see fret all over his face, and he’s reaching, and the door’s shutting, like I can’t open it, like what’s happening. I look to my left, and there she is. Ilhan Omar. And I said, ‘Well, she doesn’t have a backpack, we should be fine.’ We only had one floor to go. I said, ‘Oh look, the Jihad Squad decided to show up for work today. Don’t worry. It’s just her staffers on Twitter that talk for her, she’s not tough in person. So … there’s a little bit of interactions with these folks.

On Friday, Boebert apologized to Omar on Twitter.

“I apologize to anyone in the Muslim community I offended with my comment about Rep. Omar. I have reached out to her office to speak with her directly. There are plenty of policy differences to focus on without this unnecessary distraction,” Boebert said.
