The U.S. Capitol Police have evacuated several buildings around the Capitol after a man sitting in a pickup truck outside the Library of Congress claimed to have explosives. Police negotiators are communicating with the man after officers noticed he was holding what resembled to be a detonator. The FBI Washington Field Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have also responded to the incident.

Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger delivered a statement, “We don’t know what his motives are at this time. We’re trying to get as much information as we can to try to find a way to peacefully resolve this.”

The investigation is ongoing.
