WASHINGTON, DC - NOVEMBER 19: National Security Council Director for European Affairs Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman is sworn in to testify before the House Intelligence Committee in the Longworth House Office Building on Capitol Hill November 19, 2019 in Washington, DC.
Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a key witness in the impeachment hearings, was pushed out of his White House job months earlier than when he was scheduled to leave. Vindman’s twin brother, Yevgeny Vindman, was also fired at the same time.
The top Ukraine expert at the National Security Council’s departure was not voluntary.
Vindman’s attorney, David Pressman, said in a statement that Vindman was escorted out of the White House, because of his testimony during the impeachment proceedings.
“Today, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman was escorted out of the White House where he has dutifully served his country and his President,” Pressman said. “He does so having spoken publicly once, and only pursuant to a subpoena from the United States Congress.”

He continued, “There is no question in the mind of any American why this man’s job is over, why this country now has one less soldier serving it at the White House. [He] was asked to leave for telling the truth. His honor, his commitment to right, frightened the powerful.”
Vindman is expected to return to the Pentagon, but no assignment has been detailed yet.
“We welcome back all of our service members, wherever they serve, to any assignment they are given,” Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Friday about Vindman’s expected leave.
