Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) said that she has not ruled out a 2024 third-party run for president while speaking at the Mackinac Policy Conference in Michigan yesterday.
Her statement refueled the speculation about her possible independent bid that emerged last September when Cheney remarked that she would not be a Republican on the ballot if she ran for president in the future.
The former Wyoming representative clarified that she would not be making any announcements at the conference and is instead focused on making sure that former President Donald Trump and other politicians denying the results of the 2020 election like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — who she said she was not supporting earlier in the conference — aren’t “anywhere close to the Oval Office.”
“When we put people in positions of authority who deny the sanctity of our elections, we really do put the Republic at risk,” Cheney elaborated. She went on to state that she would be working in offices across the country to prevent that from happening.
