Liz Cheney Forced To Hire Extra Security After Numerous Death Threats

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) spent $58,000 in the first three months of this year on private security. After publicly announcing her support for former President Donald Trump‘s impeachment, Cheney received numerous death threats and was shortly thereafter removed from her leadership role in the GOP and the House.

Capitol Police officers were assigned for Cheney’s special protection during her time in Washington D.C., which is abnormal for the position in Congress she held at the time. The congresswoman has also had a minimal number of public appearances.

Cheney has made her position about Trump clear in numerous interviews and public statements. “I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law, and joins the former president’s crusade to undermine our democracy,” she tweeted. Cheney’s father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, expressed his concerns to his daughter prior to the January 6 riot.

Cheney recently retweeted Rep. Peter Meijer‘s (R-Michigan) tweet: “Not peaceful. Not “let in by police.” Not Antifa. Not FBI. (Can’t believe I have to say that.)”

After her vote to impeach Trump back in January 2021, Cheney received enormous backlash from numerous Trump supporters. Trump responded to Cheney’s removal from Republican leadership, calling Cheney “a bitter, horrible human being” whom he considered “bad” for the Republican party.
