United States House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) has tried and failed to mediate an ongoing online tiff between two freshmen lawmakers inside his caucus.
The spat between Reps. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) began over the weekend after Mace condemned Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) for calling Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Illinois) a terrorist and a member of the “Jihad Squad” late last week, to which Greene urged Boebert not to apologize.
On Sunday, Mace said on CNN that she “I have time after time condemned my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for racist tropes and remarks that I find disgusting. And this is no different than any other.”
That prompted Greene to start a Twitter war with Mace on Tuesday.

“Nancy Mace is the trash in the GOP Conference. Never attacked by Democrats or RINO’s (same thing) because she is not conservative, she’s pro-abort. Mace you can back up off of Lauren Boebert or just go hang with your real gal pals, the Jihad Squad. Your out of your league,” tweeted Greene.
Mace fired back, beginning with correcting Greene’s typo.
“*You’re. And, while I’m correcting you, I’m a pro-life fiscal conservative who was attacked by the Left all weekend (as I often am) as I defied China while in Taiwan. What I’m not is a religious bigot (or racist). You might want to try that over there in your little ‘league,'” she wrote.
Mace added that Greene “is what a bat-sh*t clown” looks like.
Hours later, Greene boasted about tattling on Mace to former President Donald Trump.
Just had a great conversation with President Trump about Nancy Mace,” Greene tweeted. “I absolutely love President Trump. He’s our leader!”
McCarthy subsequently summoned both Congresswomen into his office in an attempt to mediate the situation. But according to Politico’s Olivia Beavers, who interviewed Mace and Greene after the meeting, McCarthy’s efforts did little to alleviate the tension.
“After my meeting with Kevin McCarthy … I agreed that I’d quit attacking her, and I haven’t attacked her,” Greene said. “I don’t think I said anything different after the meeting.”
She insisted that she “wasn’t announcing anything about President Trump because he already emailed that out. I didn’t go out making announcements about Nancy Mace. If I was gonna make an announcement about Nancy Mace, she’d see me tweeting it.”
Mace rebutted that Greene is “a No. 1 grifter” with “nothing going on in her life” who “takes advantage of vulnerable Americans and vulnerable conservatives.”
Greene also reportedly wished for somebody to mount a primary challenge to Mace, to which Mace replied, “All I can say about Marjorie Taylor Greene is bless her f*cking heart.”
