New York City’s mayoral race is still being counted, with the ninth round of votes closing the gap between candidates Eric Adams and Kathryn Garcia, who is trailing behind by around 15,000 votes. Adams currently holds 51.1% of voes, and Garcia holds 48.9%.
In response to Garcia’s rise in the count, Adams’ campaign said in a statement: “There are still absentee ballots to be counted that we believe favor Eric — and we are confident we will be the final choice of New Yorkers when every vote is tallied.”
This update comes after yesterday’s electoral blunder in which 135,000 “tester” votes were officially counted, obscuring the actual number of votes. The BOE blamed “human error” rather than a failure to correctly train its members, who refused the training offered by the software company.

Third-place finisher Maya Wiley has called it “a wide-open race.” Wiley said at a press conference on Wednesday, “The people will speak, and they have spoken, we just need to know what they said. Let’s really be very clear with all New Yorkers: We don’t have any official count. That is the most important thing.”
The winner of this election will face off with GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa in the November general election.
