Kanye West Will Not Appear On Arizona’s Ballot, Judge Rules

Rapper Kanye West will not appear on Arizona’s ballot, a judge ruled Thursday after a lawsuit was brought by an Arizona resident on Monday disputing West’s qualifications as an independent candidate.

The lawsuit argued that independent presidential candidates cannot appear on the state’s ballot if they are registered with a mainstream political party, and West is a registered Republican in Wyoming.

Rasean Clayton, the Arizona resident and Navy veteran, said through his lawyers that he filed the suit because he didn’t “want people to get confused voting on ballots that have disqualified people listed with everyone else who followed the law.”

West has struggled to get on several state’s ballots including in in Illinois, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Virginia and Wyoming, due to insufficient signatures and missing deadlines.

He has, however, qualified for the ballot in Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah and Vermont.

West has previously said he will be relying on write-in votes in states where he failed to qualify for the ballot, tweeting in July that he “will beat Biden off of write-ins.”
