Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris took the stage at Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center for the second presidential debate in 2024. This night marked not only the second debate but also the first time that Harris and Trump had met.
Hosts David Muir and Linsey Davis asked pointed questions about the economy, abortion, immigration and international relations in the 90-minute debate.
Harris claimed that her plan for an “Opportunity Economy” is the answer to middle class woes, and she was vocal about her criticism of Trump Administration during his time in office.
“I am actually the only person on this stage who has a plan that is about lifting up the middle class and working people of America,” Harris said when asked about the economy.

Trump responded that Biden and Harris have not delivered on what was promised after being elected in 2020. He made frequent jabs at President Joe Biden claiming that he “doesn’t know he’s alive.”
Harris was quick to respond to Trump’s commentary.
Harris responded, “Well, first of all, it’s important to remind the former president you’re not running against Joe Biden, you’re running against me.”
When the debate shifted to foreign policy, Trump went on the attack.
“I left, unfortunately, left because our country has gone to hell,” Trump said of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Trump said that the war wouldn’t have begun if he had been president,
“If Donald Trump were president, Putin would be sitting in Kyiv right now,” Harris said in her rebuttal.
Most major media outlets claimed that Harris won the debate with her aggressive style and poise under questioning as she effectively rattled Trump.
The vice presidential debate on October, 1 could be the last face-off before the election. But Harris’ campaign challenged Trump to a second debate shortly after their first one concluded.
