Justice Department Spokesperson Joshua Stueve Resigns, Citing ‘Hostile & Toxic Work Environment’

Joshua Stueve, spokesperson for the Department of Justice (DOJ), has resigned due to the toxic work environment.

“Simply put, I cannot continue to serve in such a hostile and toxic work environment, one where leadership at the highest levels makes clear we are not welcomed or valued, much less trusted to do our jobs,” wrote Stueve in a letter to leadership.

Stueve’s resignation is the latest development in upheaval at DOJ under new Attorney General Pam Bondi. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which tech mogul Elon Musk directs, has initiated cuts to all government agencies, including DOJ.

Since Donald Trump‘s inauguration, the DOGE has worked to dismantle parts of the government while simultaneously firing federal workers.

In his letter, Stueve mentioned serving as the DOJ’s senior communications advisor for both political parties since January 2021.

“To be clear, the outcome of the most recent general election did not influence my decision. In fact, it has been an honor to serve this department under multiple administrations led by both Republicans and Democrats, each of whom has previously treated career staff with respect and dignity,” Stueve noted in the letter.
