Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who was fired by the Trump administration hours before his retirement, has won back his retirement benefits in a civil lawsuit settlement.
The Justice Department has agreed to restore McCabe’s pension and retirement benefits as well as provide some attorney fees.
McCabe has argued that his firing three years ago was the result of a “years-long public vendetta” by former President Donald Trump.
On the eve of his 50th birthday in March 2018, the DOJ demoted and, subsequently, fired McCabe.

After firing McCabe, Trump took to Twitter calling it “a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI – A great day for democracy.”
McCabe took his own victory lap after the settlement was announced. “I think the message that you get loud and clear from the terms of the settlement is that this never should have happened. It feels like complete vindication because that’s what it is,” McCabe said.
