Justice Department Investigates Trump’s Handling Of Classified Documents

Investigators looking into former President Donald Trump‘s handling of classified documents have issued a subpoena to the National Archives and Records Administration to obtain 15 boxes of documents that were taken to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property in Florida following his administration.

The National Archives called on the Justice Department to open an investigation into the matter in February. Suspicion began to rise around that time into whether or not Trump complied with the Presidential Records Act which requires presidents to preserve all memos, letters, emails and papers that they touched to be handed over to the National Archives at the end of their administration. The DOJ officially began its probe in April.

Trump’s team has been adamant that he complied with the rules.

The former President “consistently handled all documents in accordance with applicable law and regulations. Belated attempts to second-guess that clear fact are politically motivated and misguided,” said Trump spokesperson Taylor Budowich.

The DOJ’s investigation will likely make an effort to determine how sensitive the information in the documents was and who had access to them.
