Rep. Devin Nunes (R-California) won’t be able to include Twitter in his lawsuit against two satirical Twitter accounts by a political consultant Liz Mair, a judge ruled Wednesday.
In his 2019 lawsuit, Nunes asserted that Mair and the anonymous accounts, which posed as Nunes’s cow from the family farm and his mother on Twitter, @DevinCow and @DevinNunesMom respectively, damaged his reputation and caused him to almost lose his 2018 re-election. He also accused Twitter of negligence for allowing this to happen without any proper intervention.
Following the decision, Twitter released a statement supporting the judge’s decision.
“Twitter enforces the Twitter Rules impartially for everyone who uses our service around the world, regardless of their background or political affiliation,” Twitter’s spokesperson Katie Rosborough said. “We are constantly improving our efforts to serve the public conversation and will continue to be transparent with the public.”
